Project Description

The 12 Jalan Bukit Merah renovation project was for a 5 room resale flat with 6 of them staying in the home: happy couple with 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl aged 9 and 10, along with 2 helpers. The flat is a unique 5 room with balcony space.

The clients are returning clients from 6-7 years ago and decided to re-engage us for the renovation.

Design approach

Thom Signature Reviews: For the 12 Bukit Merah project, the design approach is a modern theme, with more white injected into the living space because the client wanted it to have a brighter look and feel airy. One of the interesting things that was done was to convert the balcony into more living room space.

The main idea was to have storage and display built across the entire living room as the client is a bag collector and wanted to display and store all her high-end bags.

One of the walls in the living area was hacked down and glass was put up so that the study room can be seen from the living room. This was to create more natural light within the study which is where the client spends a lot of time as she works from home.

The kitchen area was designed to have an open concept as client doesn’t cook much and wanted to have a kitchen that is more interactive with the guests and occupants of the home.

The master bedroom was more dressed up with an elaborate headboard and gold trimming incorporated into the carpentry to showcase a very luxury look.

The kids’ bedrooms was designed with a built-in tables for each of them, where they could study and do their work. We also suggested elevated platform beds for more storage for the kids, as they can store their things within without taking up a lot of space.
